An environmental portrait is an image where the surroundings that are included around the main subject to form part of the narrative, meaning or to better convey the subjects personality . In many cases it will relate directly to the person, such as a place of work or an object but on other occasions it can be completely opposite and create an unusual juxtaposition between the main subject and their surroundings. In many cases the artist will have included things which may seem innocuous or even random but it is often the case that it was deliberate and intentional. In this section I will be exploring a series of environmental portraits by different artists to see what they have done and how it will influence my work.
